Steve qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arram Berlyn Gardner LLP, a medium sized practice based in the City of London and has eight years post qualification experience during which time he progressed to Associate Director and was responsible for a varied client portfolio. Steve has extensive knowledge in the accounting and taxation requirements of small and medium sized owner managed businesses, both in compliance and effective tax/business planning.

His range of skills encompasses business start-ups including advice on incorporations, cloud accounting software solutions and personal and corporate tax advice. He will also advise on research and development tax relief claims including preparation of reports to be filed with HMRC, and guidance and advice in relation to the Enterprise Investment Scheme and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.

Steve has been appointed a partner of Ashby & Company, Chartered Accountants in advance of taking over the Practice from his father John.

Away from the office Steve has travelled extensively but is now a family man with two young children. He still has a passion for football and is a qualified level 1 FA Coach. He coaches Haslemere Town Youth U8’s, the team his son plays for. Steve is also the treasurer of Love Haslemere Hate Waste, a local environmental charity with the goal of making Haslemere a zero waste town.

John has over forty years experience as a Chartered Accountant, having trained and qualified in London with BDO, and subsequently locally as a client manager with Menzies and Grant Thornton. Apart from a two year break in commerce he has continued in the profession, commencing to build the Practice Ashby & Company in the early nineties.

John has a wealth of experience in advising the owner managed business sector across the accounting and taxation spectrum, both in terms of compliance and planning. He will be an active partner in the foreseeable future and subsequently on a consultancy basis.
Outside work John’s interests are watching football, rugby and ballet, playing geriatric squash doubles and getting involved with the grandchildren.
